“I go into a home and immediately get a sense of what it should be, how it should
look, and then know exactly what to do for the property.”
His heart of gold shows when I learned that many of the transformed homes are
then sold for the same amount that he has spent on the residence, with Billy oftentimes
acting as the bank. Restoring and transforming a home is a wonderful thing especially
when you learn that many residents of the community are now first-time homeowners
as a result of his caring, concern and kindness.
Billy’s efforts to transform and restore the Aberdeen homes has become contagious
spurring a revitalizing effect in this community of approximately 6,200. Billy is making
such a difference, beautifying faces and properties. And yes, he does own a home in Ab-
erdeen—Steamboat—a house that he purchased as his personal residence. Having been
vacant for some thirty years, the home was originally built to resemble an old steamboat.
“It is such an amazing house for me. After all the homes I have done, I never considered
keeping one. I just wanted to spend more here (Aberdeen).”
While discussing a hectic travel schedule that often includes international locations,
I asked him where is the most beautiful place that you have visited? Anticipating a chic
hot spot in the South of France, he answered, without hesitation, “Destin is the most
beautiful place I have ever been; the Gulf is perfect.”
It was my pleasure to spend a few days in the Billy B.’s universe and getting to know
this down-to-earth beauty icon. The following day Billy was celebrating his 45th birthday and when I asked what the grand plans would entail, he said, “It is one of my few
days off. I am going to enjoy the beach and hit up a few thrift stores.”
One thing is certain: Billy Brasfield has the rare gift of making the world around him
a much more beautiful place.b
